Iron Mountain Mining (ASX: IRM) has reported that an inferred bauxite resource has been estimated from drilling undertaken at the Wandoo project.
A resource of 19 million tonnes at 41.7% total Al2O3, 29.8% available Al2O3 and 5.7% reactive SiO2 has been estimated within Wandoo (E70/2693), approximately 35km west of New Norcia in Western Australia.
Current global inferred resources of bauxite at Wandoo are now in excess of 80Mt.
A resource estimation on data from historical Areas 4, 5 & 9 is to commence in 2011.
The company’s maiden drilling Wandoo drilling program was completed in June 2010.
Under the guidance of Independent Metallurgical Operations Pty Ltd (IMO), metallurgical test work on a 300kg bulk sample of bauxite from the maiden drilling program west of New Norcia has begun.
The results will allow the company to refine exploration target prioritisation in the future and provide the details for advanced discussions with potential off-take partners to take place.
All required test work is expected to be completed in 2010 followed by an official report in early 2011.
The Iron Mountain Wandoo Bauxite Project is comprised of 13 granted exploration licences covering over 950km2 from Chittering to north of New Norcia.
The resource estimation work based on the maiden drilling program undertaken by Iron Mountain over a portion of historical Area 19 within E70/2693 was conducted by Hackman & Associates Pty Ltd.
Drilling at Wandoo is expected to resume in the March 2011 quarter following the completion of harvesting in the area.
