INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis has won a $42,000 federal grant to boost the amount of trash generated by fans at the city's sports venues that's recycled.
City officials plan to use the grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to find ways to increase recycling of aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic cups and other waste at the homes of the Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts.
The money will also help identify other items that can be recycled.
Both Conseco Fieldhouse and Lucas Oil Stadium already have recycling programs and drop-off bins. After each Indianapolis Colts game, more than 2,000 pounds of glass, aluminum and plastic is collected at Lucas Oil Stadium and recycled.
