NEW DELHI, Apr 29, 2010 (Asia In Focus via COMTEX) --VEDANTA RESOURCES GROUP's India-based firm VEDANTA ALUMINIUM has entered into a pact with the Orissa-based Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) for technical support to recover minerals from waste generated while producing metals, a company statement said on Tuesday. “Vedanta Aluminium signed a memorandum of understanding with IMMT of Orissa to utilise expertise available within the state and to develop technology for recovering valuable materials from waste generated in alumina and aluminium industry,” it said.
* The company aims to recover valuable materials like titanium, vanadium, iron from the red mud generated from its alumina refinery in the state.
* "Vedanta Aluminium's alumina refinery has implemented a zero discharge system and our partnership with the research institute would help us in realising our vision to make the refinery a zero waste plant, which no plant across the globe has achieved to date,” Vedanata Aluminium chief operating officer Mukesh Kumar said.
