New Delhi, Dec 5 (IANS) State-owned National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) is exploring possibilities of setting up an aluminium smelter and power plant in Indonesia, Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy said Tuesday.
Over the last four months two NALCO teams visited Indonesia to scout for prospects of setting up a unit there, the minister said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
'A team from NALCO had visited Indonesia in August to discuss with various government authorities and to assess general business environment. Another team from NALCO visited Indonesia in November at the invitation of the governors of South Sumatra and Riau provinces to discuss the project proposals/prospects,' the minister stated.
Indonesia is a net exporter of oil and has considerable mineral resources making it an attractive location to set up an aluminium smelter.
