Low demand in the sluggish economic environment cut German aluminium production in Jan/Sept 2012 to a fall of 1.5 per cent on the year to 790,854 tonnes, German aluminium industry association GDA estimated on Tuesday.
"No improvement is expected in the final quarter of the year," the association said in a statement.
German smelters produced 305,992 tonnes of primary aluminium in the first nine months of 2012, down 5.6 per cent on the year, the association said.
Production of secondary aluminium from scrap metal rose 1.6 per cent to 484,862 tonnes, it said.
