German group Lufttechnik Bayreuth (LTB) has received order for a RTO fume treatment system from SGL Carbon Polska.
SGL is spending €3M at its Raciborz plant in Poland to improve health and safety conditions and to optimise the environmental performance of the baking furnaces.
LTB is a supplier of air pollution control equipment which serves the aluminium industry.
SGL Group is a supplier of carbon products. It supplies electrodes and cathodes to the worldwide aluminium and steel industry. In several sites SGL produces more than 6kt/y of cathode block materials.
A new fume treatment plant was ordered from LTB to improve health and safety conditions. The solution was developed on the basis of a regenerative thermal oxidiser (RTO) installation that LTB had previously supplied to another SGL site.
The aim is to reduce the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) emissions. Several baking furnaces create more than 100.000 m3/h of fume gases.
The fume treatment system will be one of the biggest installations in the industry. The fumes contain aerosols, particulate matter, VOCs and condensable hydrocarbons. With the new plant type the emissions will be reduced compared to old systems with only electrostatic precipitators.
The plant utilises the heat value of the condensates in the fumes to reduce energy consumption.
For this it is equipped with a high turbulence burning chamber, which saves 700kW of energy. This ensures that no additional fuel is required during normal operation.
