According to the GDA, the federation of the aluminum producing and processing industry in Germany, aluminum packaging manufacturers in Germany have recovered from the economic crisis more quickly and better than expected in 2010.
Packaging, based on or including aluminum recorded a 13.6% hike in growth in 2010 with 405,100 tonnes of aluminum foil, tubes, flexible packaging and aerosol and beverage cans produced up from 356,600 tonnes in 2009.
Mr Stefan Glimm ED of GDA said that in terms of production we have almost reached the level we were at before the crisis. Strong demand came from the most important markets for aluminum packaging cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food industries.
He said that our sector is expecting stable development at a high volume level in 2011 similar to the general economic forecasts. But rising prices for raw materials such as plastics and higher operating and energy costs are squeezing margins.
The report said that besides an upturn in domestic demand, the German market also experienced strong export demand in 2010. Export sales account for about 70% of the turnover of the companies in the sector.
The GDA said that aluminum packaging manufacturers' sales forecasts and growth expectations for 2011 remain optimistic with high demand and stable levels of orders received the Q1 of 2011 is carrying on smoothly from last year's good level.
