(07 April 2010) The amount of secondary aluminium manufactured in Germany fell sharply in 2009. Statistics published by the German aluminium industry federation GDA show that German secondary smelters produced a total of 560,800 tonnes of aluminium last year. This figure was around 160,000 tonnes lower than the 2008 total of 720,900 tonnes and almost 297,000 tonnes lower than in 2007. The downturn in primary aluminium production was even stronger. Output reached just 291,700 tonnes last year in comparison with 605,900 tonnes in 2008.
