Sapa Extrusions plant manager Ron Ballman says the Delhi aluminum manufacturer is back in full production following a weekend fire that briefly shut down operations in the cast house.
The fire occurred about 6:30 p.m. Saturday because of moisture in the molten metal area. A flash fire ignited aluminum oxide and dust in the rafters, but authorities said Richland Parish firefighters quickly extinguished it.
"We're fully operational; in fact, we were fully operational in less than 24 hours," Ballman said.
There was little damage to the facility and only one minor injury that was treated at the site, he said.
"The people in the plant responded very well and follow the processes we have in place," Ballman said.
He said a process engineer was on site Monday to investigate the reason for the accident.
Ballman said the plant was operational by 2 a.m. Sunday.
Sapa employs 338 workers, making it the largest private employer in Richland Parish.
The company recently invested $2.5 million to improve operations in its cast house, where Sapa recycles aluminum into aluminum logs.
