Mr Tadeu Nardocci has been appointed as the new chairman of the European Aluminium Association. The president of the Novelis Group took up the honorary role on January 1st 2011. He succeeds Alcoa's Marcos Ramos.
EAA Secretary General Patrick de Schrynmakers hailed the appointment as the beginning of a new chapter for the industry body as it would be the first time its leader had come from a downstream and recycling company.
He added that “We are fully confident that in these challenging times - this will be beneficial to the association.”
Mr Nardocci was appointed as president, Novelis Europe in June 2009. He oversees 13 manufacturing facilities across Europe which produce rolled aluminium for markets including packaging, automotive, building, transportation and printing.
