Norsk Hydro is open to the possibility of expanding its aluminum operations in Norway, as its battles to secure energy supplies for the energy intensive business, Chief Executive Eivind Reiten said Tuesday. "In general, we're in a situation where it's so challenging to find cheap, long-term energy that we're also reviewing opportunities in Norway," Reiten said at a press briefing in Norway. He did not specify whether the potential aluminum projects would be upstream or downstream, or give costings, but said they would be medium rather than giant-sized and could be in the form of "add-ons" to existing plants. Hydro said at its capital markets day earlier this month that it is evaluating the expansion of its Karmoy smelter in Norway. The company has a range of aluminum products businesses in Norway, including automotive products, extrusion products and building systems.
