It has become known that the EU has reduced the import duty on aluminum from 6 to 3% in order to increase its supplies volume from Russia. The decree is to come into force in several days. Moreover, the duty on aluminum valid for ten years already is likely to be abolished by 2009.
The point is that Russian companies are the main suppliers of nonferrous metals to the EU countries. Last year the amount of aluminum imported into Europe made up over 2 million tons. Thus, now the Europeans may expect increase of Russian supplies.
