According to statistics from Comex Stat, a system of Brazilian foreign trade statistics, Brazil exported a total of around 489,400 tons of bauxite in December last year, up by 51.1% compared to the previous month and by 40% from the year-ago level.
Among them, the exports to China amounted to roughly 174,800 tons. It was the first time that China imported bauxite from Brazil since October 2019. Brazil was unlisted from China’s bauxite suppliers as Brazilian ore had no advantages in prices and transportation distance. However, due to strong demand in China, Brazil’s bauxite returned to China’s market.
In 2022, Brazil’s bauxite exports amounted to 4.21 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 20.3%, of which exports to Ukraine and Ireland dropped the most.
