According to customs data, in May 2022, China's bauxite imports reached a record high of 11.97 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 31.4%.
Among them, Australia was the main exporter of bauxite to China, with a volume of 3.09 million tons, up by 26.6% year on year.
Guinea, the second-largest bauxite exporter to China, supplies 6.9 million tons, which surged by 32.9% year on year.
Indonesia, once a major supplier of bauxite to China, exported 1.74 million tons of bauxite to China during the month, a year-on-year increase of 40.7% and a month-on-month decrease of 18.6%.
The historic increase in China's bauxite imports showed that the country is increasingly dependent on imported ore.
