According to the International Aluminum Institute (IAI), China's primary aluminum output hit a record 3.42 million tons in May as smelters in China continued to increase their operating rates.
China’s operating rate hit an all-time high of 40.27 million tons in May, and the annualized aluminum production surged by 3.66 million tons in the first five months of this year.
As the tight power supply, which limited production for most of the time last year, has eased, China’s smelters are now recovering.
In May, China's aluminum output accounted for a share of 58.91% of global total output.
