Downstream copper fabricators and alumina producers in Shandong, Shanxi and Henan provinces in northern China, cut their output or halted production entirely, following local government orders to curb air pollution.

Sources told Fastmarkets the problem could persist through the typically polluted winter-heating season, weighing on downstream demand for copper and alumina production.
“This is the third time this month that we received this kind of order, and it’s really up to weather conditions to see how the policy could change,” a copper buyer from the local downstream fabricator in Henan province said.
