China is the largest aluminum producer in the world currently. The country’s primary aluminum output hit a record high in 2020, reaching 37.08 million tons. However, the Chinese government hoped that the annual capacity can be limited at 45 million tons, which will make producers seek more recycled aluminum.
According to an expert of Antaike, a Chinese state-owned research firm, China's aluminum consumption has entered a slowdown phase and was expected to peak around 2024. Therefore, the output of recycled aluminum will increase and the demand for primary aluminum will decrease.
