According to statistics, China's alumina production totaled around 5.65 million tons in April. Among them, the output of metallurgical grade alumina was nearly 5.4 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 2.61% and a year-on-year decrease of 7.07%.
In the first four months of this year, China’s metallurgical grade alumina production amounted to roughly 21.56 million tons, decreasing by 8.61% compared to the same period a year ago.
As of early May, the operating capacity of metallurgical grade alumina was 65.08 million tons. The output was expected to reach around 5.53 million tons in May, while the average daily output will drop to roughly 178,000 tons since certain alumina plants in North China, such as Chalco's Shanxi branch, have further cut their production.
