Guizhou Qiya Aluminum Industry Co., Ltd., a big alumina producer in southwest China with an annual production capacity of 1.15 million tons, announced that it has decided to stop using imported bauxite at the beginning of this month due to the sluggish alumina market.
The current ex-work price of alumina was low, so the firm was operated under losses. The firm’s two high-temperature alumina production lines, which used domestic bauxite, were still operating, while the other low-temperature production line, relying on imported bauxite, was suspended currently. The previous import sources included Malaysia and Indonesia.
