In June, China imported 4.09 million tons bauxite from Indonesia, increased by 2146.3% year-on-year, by 8.5% month-on-month. The same period in the last year, Indonesia issued the policy to restrict the export of bauxite, which resulted in the amount of imported bauxite of China from Indonesia decreased sharply. Since the end of the last year, the export of bauxite was resumed, and for the recent months, the amount has reached the normal level.
In addition, Indonesia will have the holiday at the beginning of August, and the holiday will extend to the middle of the month. Thus, the export of bauxite is expected to increase in July.
Although in the first half year, China's alumina market is weak, there has strong demand to import bauxite. In the long term, the demand will still increase, because the alumina new capacity starting in the next half year will consume 2.2 million tons bauxite.
