China steel output hits 54.31 metric tons in Feb

World’s largest steel consumer China said its daily output of crude steel rise 12.8% year on year to 1.94 million metric tons in the first two months of this year.


According to country’s National Bureau of Statistics, China produced a total of 114.18 million metric tons of crude steel during January to February this year, 12.6% more than in the same period of last year.


In the month of February, the country's crude steel output was 54.31 million metric tons, up 9.7% year on year.


China saw its output of pig iron grow 10% year on year to 50.51 million metric tons last month, taking its total output of the material to 102.7 million metric tons in the first two months, 8.9% more than in the same period of last year.


China's iron ore output jumped 22% year on year to 72.45 million metric tons in February, and rose 21% to 146.2 million metric tons in the first two months.


China’s iron ore production is expected to rise 8.8 percent to 660 million metric tons this year.


Country’s iron ore imports fell 1.4 percent to 618.6 million tons last year, the first drop since 1998, after the government took measures to curb electricity use, rein in property speculations and as domestic mines increased output. (Commodity Online)
