Bloomberg Jan 20---Aluminum Corp. of China plans to start building a $2 billion copper mine in Peru in March, daily Gestion reported, citing company lawyer Armando Arrieta.
The company, known as Chinalco, is waiting for a construction permit for its Toromocho project after receiving government approval for an environmental study in December, the Lima-based newspaper said.
Chinalco has invested $700 million to date in equipment orders and plans to invest $100 million in the construction of 1,050 homes for residents of the town of Morcocha who will be relocated, Arrieta told Gestion.
The Toromocho mine will produce 1 million metric tons of copper concentrates annually by its third year of operation, according to Gestion.
