BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) The Aluminum Corp. of China, or Chal co will join in the nonferrous metals prospecting in Qamdo Prefecture in eastern Tibet Autonomous Region, as Qamdo is under way construction of a national base of nonferrous metals。
According to a strategic agreement signed between Chalco and the local government of Changdu this August, Chalco plans to invest a tot al amount of 10 billion yuan in the coming five to ten years, in a bid to verify 15 million metric tons (tonnes) mineral resources including lead, zinc and copper.
Qamdo Prefecture is renowned for its abundant mineral resources,including copper, iron, lead, zinc and magnesite. It has so far disco vered 52 types of minerals in 714 mineral ore blocks, 15 among which a re large-scale ones and 11 are medium sized.
The area has discovered 10.3464 million tonnes of proven copper reserve, 3.5739 million tonnes of proven lead zinc ore, 18.14 million tonnes tin ore and 200 million plus iron ore reserves.
Qamdo is also home to China's largest, Asia's second largest cop per mine deposit, namely Yulong Copper Mine, with over 6.50 million to nnes proven reserves and more than 10 million tonnes prospective reser ves of the red metal.
