Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd. (ACH US), the nation’s biggest producer of the metal, increased 5.9 percent to $24.01, the most since July 20. Chalco, as the Beijing-based company is known, rose after its parent announced a plan to invest at least 10 billion yuan ($1.49 billion) to build a rare earth production base in Jiangxi province with a local partner.
Baidu Inc. (BIDU US), the operator of China’s largest Internet search engine, decreased 1.7 percent to $102.04, its first drop after six straight gains. The Beijing-based company was downgraded to “hold” from “buy” at Mirae Asset Securities by equity analyst Eric Wen. The 12-month target price is $95 per share.
China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (SNP US), known as Sinopec, rose 0.1 percent to $86.97. Sinopec bought Mittal Investments’s 50 percent stake in a Kazakh oil venture with OAO Lukoil, Interfax said, citing an unidentified person with knowledge of the project.
