MOSCOW, January 31. In 2006, aluminum industry showed excellent results although the trends were quite controversial. Annual average price of one ton of aluminum grew to USD2,570, its absolute historical maximum.
According to RUSAL's press service, demand for aluminum grew by 7.1%.
At the same time, the continuing growth of energy prices and expiration of long-term contracts on power supplies resulted in a shut-down of several aluminum plants in Europe. Aluminum production in this region declined by almost 4% in 2006 as compared with 2005.
