State-owned Aluminium Corp. of China is planning to build 190,000 metric tons of aluminum smelting capacity at the Fushun Aluminium Plant, according to the country's top economic planning body.
The company, also known as Chinalco, will also build two power generators with a capacity of 300 megawatts each at the plant, the National Development and Reform Commission said on its Web site late Thursday.
It said the Chinalco aims to finish the project in Fushun City, in Liaoning province, within three years, although the projects haven't yet received all the necessary government permits needed for construction.
In August, the government of Fushun City said Chinalco would invest CNY6 billion ($759 million) to restructure the Fushun Aluminium Plant. The plant is currently closed due to financial difficulties.
Chinalco is the parent company of the Aluminium Corp. of China Ltd. (ACH), or Chalco, the world's second-largest alumina producer.
