According to statistics from the Aluminium Association of Canada (AAC), Canada’s standard commodity ingot (P1020) exports to the US totaled 112,000 tons in July, sliding by 30% compared to the previous month.
In the past two months, there was a decrease of more than 40% in Canada’s primary aluminum exports to the US, which was due to the increasing demand for Value Added Products (VAP).
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the demand for aluminum in the automobile industry dropped sharply; therefore, North American aluminum smelters shifted their production focus to VAP from aluminum ingots.
