Canada-based Alcan has evinced interest in joining hands with JSW Aluminium Limited, which is setting up a Rs 4,000-crore alumina refinery in Vizianagaram district.
Alcan will provide technology for the alumina refinery plant, and has expressed interest for equity participation too,?Sandeep Gokhale, director (business development), JSW Aluminium Limited, told mediapersons here on Sunday.
JSW is already in talks with Alcan and is expected to close the deal soon.
JSW is setting up a 1.4-million tonnes alumina refinery at S Kota in Vizianagaram district. The Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) will supply bauxite ore to this proposed plant. JSW's refinery requires about 4.2 million tonne of bauxite ore every year. The state government has identified 1,300 acres of land for the plant, of which the government land comprises about 1,128 acres while 172 acres is private land.
He said only 50 families would require rehabilitation packages in this land acquisition.
We will start the construction works on the refinery as soon as we get mining clearances from the APMDC, he added.
JSW Aluminium also plans to set up an aluminium smelter and a 500-Mw power plant with an investment of about Rs 5,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh. The plant location, however, is yet to be decided.
