The Brazilian unit of Canadian aluminum giant Alcan's composites arm Alcan Composites expects revenues to rise 18% in 2007, South America superintendent director Marcelo Siviero told BNamericas.
Revenues for last year could total some US$10mn on sales of roughly 300,000 sq m. Demand in the civil construction segment in countries such as Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Venezuela are expected to see an increased need for Alcan Composites' products in 2007, he said.
Meanwhile, the manufacturing unit, located in Brazil's northeastern Bahia state, is due to increase exports throughout South America, the director explained. "In 2006, shipments abroad totaled 26% of overall volumes, mainly to Chile, Argentina and Venezuela," he said, but the 2007 target is to increase exports to 35% of total sales volume.
Furthermore, a new plant in South America is not part of Alcan Composites' short to mid-term plans, despite strong demand. "I can't say in the long-term, because we don't know what could eventually happen with Brazil's economy, or if Chile and Argentina would experience the growth seen in China and India," the executive said.
Alcan Composites also has facilities in China, Germany and the US.
