MONTREAL -- Quebec Premier Jean Charest will participate Monday in an "important" announcement by aluminum company Alcan Inc. for the Montreal region.
Details weren't included in a release issued Friday.
Alcan CEO Dick Evans will make the announcement in the presence of Charest, Economic Development Minister Raymond Bachand and Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay.
Evans "will be making an announcement that concerns the development of the Montreal region," Alcan spokeswoman Patricia Keuroglian said.
An analyst said he hasn't heard of any new large projects planned by Alcan.
With an election call expected in coming months, the province recently provided hydroelectric and water rights to entice Alcan to invest $1.8 billion to expand its smelter operations in Quebec's Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean area.
Shares of Alcan were up $1.26, or 2.6 percent, to $49.78 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
