Amicus members at Alcan Inc.'s Alcan Packaging in Salterbeck, Cumbria, called off a strike over job losses after successful talks with management yesterday.
Workers in the print department of the factory at Salterbeck had voted to take industrial action over job cuts they said would make the maintenance of current production levels impossible.
Amicus regional officer, Edward Irvine, said: "Amicus and Alcan Packaging have agreed on an amicable solution which satisfactory for both our members and the company. It was clear that the initial proposal was a quick fix and that it could not have been workable in the long-term. We are pleased with the outcome which has only been achieved through our members working in solidarity."
