MANAMA: The Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) board yesterday decided to standardise employment contracts to improve employee living standards, in particular that of Bahrainis. This decision was announced by the Alba chairman Mahmood Al Kooheji following a board meeting held at the company's offices.
The board studied the benefits of different types of contracts and decided to eliminate differences, standardising benefits for all employees and add new benefits.
The company's performance reports indicate that, finished metal production up to the end of April stood at nearly 290,000 tonnes, which was 5,300 tonnes above target.
Alba maintenance teams have been able to overcome complex technical challenges well ahead of the summer months, the meeting was told.
"These achievements reflect the high calibre of Alba's employees," said Mr Al Kooheji.
The board also reviewed all issues on the agenda, including a detailed comparison by the executive management team of Alba's performance against the strategic plan that went into effect last year as well as the company's financial and marketing performances.
It also reviewed the latest reports of the audit and human resources committees as well as a number of technical reports related to the company's various operations.
"This remarkable production achievement was made possible entirely by improving current efficiencies using in-house expertise, reducing downtime and increasing reliability," said Mr Al Kooheji.
Representing the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holdings Company, in addition to Mr Al Kooheji, were Yusuf Abdulla Taqi, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Fawzi Ahmed Kanoo, Osama M Al Arrayedh and David Meen while, representing Sabic Investments Company were Mutlaq Al Morished, Ibrahim Al Sheweir and Homood Abdulla Al Tuwaijri and representing Breton Investments was Gert Rohrseitz.
The meeting was also attended by the Alba chief executive Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi, deputy chief executive Mahmood Al Daylami, finance and legal general manager Tim Murray and other company officials.
