MANAMA, Jan 8 - Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) set a new record for the production of aluminium in 2006 when it touched 872,388 metric tonnes exceeding the rated capacity of the smelter of 830,000 metric tonnes at the time of completing the Line 5 expansion.
"This reflects on Alba's continuous productivity improvement, thus maintaining its competitiveness and meeting the growing demand for metal locally and internationally," an official said.
Alba had won the Outstanding Arab Organisation Award in recognition of its strategy in operation management, administration practices, innovative initiatives and human resources management as well as its role in the community and its commitments towards social responsibilities.
The award, in the Outstanding Arab Organisation category, was presented to Alba as part of continuing international praise among industrial companies after it became one of the largest modern smelters in the world with the commissioning of Line 5 in May 2005.
The constant training and development of Alba's employees, 90 per cent of whom are Bahrainis, was another factor that helped Alba earn the award.
