MANAMA, Jan 12 - Officials from Mina Salman visited Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) yesterday to meet members of the company's management in an effort to boost Bahrain's position as a distribution hub.
The meeting followed the private company, APM Terminals, taking charge of operations at the port, along with the upcoming Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Port.
About 40 per cent of Alba's annual production capacity of more than 870,000 metric tonnes is earmarked for exports, making the smelter and the port strategic partners in Bahrain's development.
APM officials have announced improvements in cargo movements following the December 8 takeover.
They also said they were implementing new systems which will, over the next few months, result in significant improvements in productivity that would also translate to more efficient delivery of Alba's metal to its customers.
An Alba official said with improved port facilities, the company would be positioning Bahrain as the regional distribution and re-distribution hub.
