BHP’s Mozal Smelter Needs Extra 500 to 600 Megawatts

BHP Billiton Ltd.’s Mozal aluminum smelter in Mozambique needs an additional 500 to 600 megawatts of power for the third phase of its expansion, STv reported, citing Mike Fraser, Mozal’s asset president.

Fraser told the Maputo-based broadcaster the company was negotiating with the government and state-run power utility Electricidade de Mocambique over its power requirements. （Bloomerg）
