BRISBANE based artist Normana Wight won the 2010 Rio Tinto Alcan Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards for her piece ‘Posted’。
The 35th overall winner of the award and exhibition was announced on Saturday night.
Wight, who was not in attendance, was awarded $10,000.
Norreen Graham, who owns the gallery Wight works out of, accepted the award on her behalf.
Denise Cobb won the Wide Bay Australia Limited Local Artist Award for her piece ‘A Bit Of Africa’。
The South Gladstone Rotary Multitrade Youth Artist Award was given to Nikki Aitkenhead for her piece ‘Annie’。
The Murri award was presented to Juliri and Melody Ingra for their piece ‘Travelling Country-Yallarm, Thoud & Goongu’。
Prizes were also presented in three other categories: easel paintings, works on paper and three-dimensional and fibre works.
The winner was chosen by acting director and art museum curator at the University of Queensland Art Museum Michele Helmrich.
A total of 371 entries were received for the prestigious prize, and 237 of those entries were local. The event was well attended.
