The alumina price is expected to average $213 per tonne in 2007, representing a 51% slide from this year's expected average of $443 per tonne, according to Australian government research institute ABARE.
After touching highs of $650 early this year, the price has already fallen to around $200 as of November, ABARE notes.
China's explosive production growth and incremental expansions in other parts of the world have been the twin drivers of the price decline.
ABARE sees both trends continuing next year with Chinese capacity rising further and new capacity coming on stream in Greece and India.
