Gopher Control System – Gopher Wire Mesh and Gopher Baskets
GCS-01: The appearance of mounds means gophers haunting, special actions shall be taken.
Once mounds begin to appear in lawn, special attention should be paid to gophers and plants. Gophers could be rather threatening to plants' root system and would become a major nuisance in everywhere plants exist. Effective and convenient solutions include poisons, gopher trap setting, flooding, but all of these could only deter them for a while. In order to prevent gophers once for all, the best and humane solution comes to gopher wire mesh. Three gopher control tools are provided: gopher wire mesh, gopher basket and welded hardware cloth. Gopher wire mesh and gopher basket are both made from chicken wire mesh, or called hexagonal wire mesh. To make gopher wire mesh be perfect in corrosion resistance, vinyl coating chicken wire is available and be compatible with all three products.
Gopher Wire Mesh
To deter gophers, moles, voles and many other rodents from lawn, gardens, play grounds and the like, rolls of gopher wire is perfect. We choose 304 grade stainless wire hexagonal mesh for its perfect corrosion competence, and then manufacture procedure of galvanized after woven serves for the same purpose. Small rolls of 25' length and large one of 100' length are available. And other sizes could also be customized under request.
Recommended specification for rolls of gopher wire mesh:
- Material: 304 grade stainless steel or hot-dip galvanized after woven with or without vinyl coating.
- Wire gauge and mesh size: 20 or 19 gauge wire with 3/4 inch or 1 inch measured across the flats of hexagon.
-
Roll size:
- 2', 3', 4' width × 25' length
- 3', 4', 5' width × 100' length
Application: commercial lawns, raised beds, decks, garden paths, play grounds, orchards, nurseries, public areas and golf courses.
GCS-02: Gopher wire mesh is used under sod to protect it from gophers' nibbling.
GCS-03: Gopher wire mesh could be placed in a playground.
GCS-04: Gopher wire mesh could be slit into small pieces and fixed on the bottom of raise bed for ventilation.
GCS-05: Gopher wire mesh could be used in backyard to protect valuable plants.
GCS-06: Laying gopher wire mesh strip by strip.
GCS-07: To smooth soil on gopher wire mesh, with at least 1" – 1.5" soil layer.
GCS-08: Strips of gopher wire mesh should be jointed with overlaps.
GCS-09: Completed project of gopher wire mesh and sod.
Gopher Baskets
To deter gophers and the like from individual plants, gopher baskets made by chicken wire are recommended. Gopher baskets have the same wire gauge and mesh size with gopher wire mesh, but the baskets have additional reinforced strips at edge to deter gopher. Alternatively, small rolls of gopher wire mesh could be made into a DIY gopher basket like the picture GCS-12 showed. It should be noted that the baskets chosen should always larger than the plants' root for growing.
Recommended specification for rolls of gopher basket:
- Material: stainless steel or hot-dip galvanized wire.
- Wire gauge: 20 gauge.
- Mesh size: 1/2" for mini basket and 3/4" for others measured across the flats of hexagon.
-
Basket size:
- Mini Basket for 4" diameter
- 1 Gallon for 8" diameter
- 3 Gallon for 10" diameter
- 5 Gallon for 12"diameter
GCS-10: Gopher basket to protect individual plant.
GCS-11: Gopher basket with reinforced strips on both sides.
GCS-12: Gopher basket product is flattened for carry convenience and should be unfurled when used.
GCS-13: DIY gopher basket made by small roll of gopher wire mesh.
Available Substitution – Welded Hardware Cloth
Welded hardware cloth is suitable for protecting plants from gophers' intrusion as a substitute for gopher wire mesh. Welded hardware cloth is well performed and can protect plants and sod from gophers with small mesh size being 1/2".
Recommended specification for rolls of hardware cloth:
- Material: stainless steel or galvanized wires with or without vinyl coating.
- Wire gauge: 18, 19.
- Mesh size: 1/2" – 1".
- Roll size: 24", 36", 48", 60", 72" width × 100' length.
GCS-14: Soil is placed on hardware cloth and should be flattened.
GCS-15: Hardware cloth, as a substitute for gopher wire, is also suitable for lawn and similar places.
Feature:
- Easy to install
- Cost-effective.
- Sturdy and convenient
- Corrosion resistant
- Life expectancy of 6-10 years
- Cyclic utilization allowable
GCS-16: Gopher wire mesh could be placed vertically to protect trees from gophers.
Installation:
Gopher wire and hardware cloth could be installed both vertically or horizontally. When placed horizontally, the product should be buried 1" – 1.5" below the soil and staked, then sod could be rolled over the area. Parts of products could be overlapped at least 2". When placed vertically to protect trees from rodents, the products should be installed like the picture right: the products is placed in a 2–3 feet trench with part (at least six inch) above the ground and part bent to the outside under the ground.
