Aluminum Foil Food Service Products
Aluminum foil products serve an increasingly large share of the food service market. By definition, the food service industry includes the preparation, serving and/or storing of all food consumed outside the home.
In general, the food service market can be divided into four categories:
Commercial Feeding
fast food operations (most)
restaurants and cafeterias
caterers
refreshment bars
Semi-Commercial Feeding
schools and colleges
clubs, including service clubs
public transportation
Institutional and Charitable Feeding
hospitals and nursing homes
prisons and jails
convents and seminaries
disaster feeding
Government Feeding
military personnel
civilian personnel
Various types and sizes of foil-sheet wraps have been developed specifically to serve the needs of this market, as have foil pans, cartons, and other items. However, the principal volume of food service dish, pan, and container requirements is served with standard stock.
Aluminum foil is employed in food service establishments in quantity. All sizes, weights and packaging are tailored to the particular operating requirements of the food establishment.
Institutional plain foil availability includes a variety of convenient widths in lengths of 200 to 2000 feet. Heavy duty foil has proved the most popular weight in bulk roll applications. Shorter lengths, 25 to 200 feet, in the 0.0006 to 0.00095 in. gauge range are also packed in convenience cartons for food service or any use, and are similar to household foil packages.
Plain or printed "wrap" sheets are packed interleaved or interfolded in various widths and lengths, in handy dispensing cartons.
"Hooding foil", for covering hot or cold dishes and lunch containers, is supplied in sheets and rolls of appropriate size.
Foil carry out bags of various sizes for hot or cold foods, or for other products, printed or plain, are packed 500 to 1000 per carton.
Laminated foil/waxed tissue "sandwich" wrap sheets are available plain or printed on foil and/or on the waxed paper sides, in standard or custom sizes.
Foil folding cartons and trays designed specifically for food service or other use with foil inside, outside, or both, are attractive and practical. Any surface may be printed or coated.
Formed foil pans, as discussed earlier in this chapter, are used in increasing volume for institutional and commercial food service. About 75 to 100 of the hundreds of sizes and styles of foil pans and foil/fibre trays and boxes available accommodate most food service applications.
The following five basic types of formed all-foil containers are most generally used:
Round Rectangular
Compartmented
Formed-Foil Lids Steam Table Containers
