USB4000-FL-450 and USB4000-FL-395 Spectrofluorometers
The USB4000-FL Spectrofluorometers are preconfigured, fully integrated fluorescence spectrometers. The USB4000-FL-450 comes with a USB-LS-450 direct-attach light source while the USB4000-FL-395 comes with an LS-395 LED Module. These spectrofluorometers can be used for general fluorescence measurements. The USB4000-FL-450 is available for $3523. The USB4000-FL-395 is available for $3523 The USB4000-FL spectrofluorometers cover the 360-1100 nm wavelength range. They feature a 200 entrance aperture and an L4 Detector Collection Lens to increase light-collection efficiency and reduce stray light. |
The direct-attach USB-LS-450 Pulsed Blue LED Light Source is designed as an excitation source that produces either pulsed or continuous output centered at 470 nm for fluorescence measurements.
The direct-attach USB-LS-395 produces either pulsed or continuous output centered at 395 nm.
Programmable MicrocontrollerThe USB4000-FL Spectrofluorometers' onboard programmable microcontroller provides you with considerable flexibility in controlling the spectrometer and accessories. Through a 22-pin connector, you can implement all operating parameters in the software: control light sources, create processes, and retrieve information on external objects. You have access to 8 user-programmable digital Inputs/Outputs for interfacing to other equipment. (Contact an Applications Scientist regarding what you'll need to program the GPIOs.)
Optimal PerformanceThe USB4000-FL Spectrofluormeter provides you with an affordable, high-performance 3648-element linear CCD-array detector with an optical bench that's small enough to fit into the palm of your hand. The USB4000-FL works the same way as other Ocean Optics spectrometers; it accepts light energy transmitted through single-strand optical fiber and disperses it via a fixed grating across the linear CCD array detector, which is responsive from 200-1100 nm.
Plug and Play OperationThe USB4000-FL spectrofluorometers interface to a PC, PLC or other embedded controllers via USB 2.0 or RS-232 serial port. When using the serial port, the USB4000-FL requires a single 5-volt power supply (not included). Data unique to each spectrometer is programmed into a memory chip on the USB4000-FL; our spectrometer operating software reads these values for easy setup and hot swapping among PCs.

The LED modules connect to the USB4000-FL Spectrometer via a 10-pin connector on the front of the spectrometer. The spectrometer provides power to the LED and also enables synchronization functions and I2C communications.
In addition, the USB-LS-450 and USB-LS-395 feature a built-in, 24-bit analog-to-digital converter with an analog front end that is configured for a 100 ohm platinum RTD (resistance temperature device). This is particularly useful when configured as part of a Fiber Optic Oxygen Sensor. In fact, the unit has on-board memory to store temperature calibration coefficients and oxygen calibration coefficients.
The LED modules can provide 4-20 mA output via a daughter card, making it especially useful for process applications.
The USB-LS-450 wavelength range is 460-490 nm. The USB-LS-395 wavelength range is 380-410 nm.
User's Tip: The LED module boards allow for software-controlled switching between pulsed and CW operation of the LED.
