Name Plates and Product Labels

Aluminum foil finds widespread use in decorative product labels and nameplates because of its durability and naturally attractive metallic appearance. Aluminum surface-finishes to a variety of bright, satin, or embossed patterns, and can be coated and printed in any transparent or opaque color. It also can be anodized and then dyed in any color.

Although labels and nameplates may have similar appearance for a given design, whether produced on foil or sheet gauges, labels are limited to foil gauges while nameplates are made in both medium and heavy gauges of foil, and in sheet gauges (0.006 in. to 0.25 in.).

The potential to apply decorative patterns mechanically to sheet gauges of aluminum through buffing, brushing, embossing, anodizing, and printing is virtually unlimited. Even surface grinding may be employed on sheet gauges.

Combined in moderate strengths and good corrosion resistance in a variety of atmospheres, aluminum foil labels and nameplates are economical, attractive, and long-lasting. While many sheet-gauge nameplates are attached to the product mechanically, both foil and some sheet versions lend themselves to pressure-sensitive or other adhesive attachments. Where printed and over coated foil labels and adhesive attachment meet nameplate application requirements, volume production methods can be utilized, generally with definite savings. However, with proper mechanical attachment, sheet-gauge nameplates generally have greater service life.
